8 Shows Leaving Acorn TV (US) This April + British TV This Week...

A few quick notes...

  • Today marks 28 years since the 1997 premiere of Cold Feet. The series follows the lives, relationships, and friendships of three couples in Manchester as they handle the ups and downs of love, family, and career. Originally airing from 1998 to 2003, it returned in 2016 with the same core characters, exploring how their lives had changed over the years.
  • LEAVING - Though BritBox doesn't publish a monthly list of what's leaving, I did happen to notice that Love in a Cold Climate is leaving the platform in 4 days, just in case you'd hoped to watch it.
  • NOW AVAILABLE - MobLand - A few people had emailed to say they weren't sure what I meant about the subject line note about Pierce Brosnan and Dame Helen Mirren, so I wanted to highlight it more prominently this time around. They star in this new series, and it premieres today on Paramount+.

What we're...

  • Watching: Kathy Burke: All Woman - English actress and comedian Kathy Burke takes us on a sometimes amusing journey through modern expectations of womanhood, exploring issues around beauty, motherhood, and relationships.
  • Reading: The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith - This is the first book in JK Rowling's Cormoran Strike series, and while I've read it before, I'm currently working my way back through the series ahead of the September release of The Hallmarked Man (the 8th book in the series). The first entry sees Robin coming to work as a temp for Cormoran's PI business, and together, they investigate the suspicious death of a promising young supermodel. It's currently on sale on Kindle (as of Sunday the 30th).

Acorn TV April 2025 Schedule

"In 1988, two psychologists published an article arguing that positive self-deception is a normal and advantageous part of most people’s lives. It turns out, people lie to themselves about three things: they view themselves in implausibly positive ways, they think they have far more control over their lives than they actually do, and they believe the future will be better than the evidence of the present can possibly justify. But, you’re way beyond that now. You’re on the other side of that particular mirror. Lying to yourself isn’t going to help anymore."

If you're already missing Brenda Blethyn's on-screen presence, you'll be pleased to know she has a new project in the works - an upcoming historical comedy called Fools. Starring alongside Jim Broadbent and Karen Gillan, Blethyn will appear in this 16th-century tale about Queen Mary Tudor and her unexpected friendship with her court jester, Jane Foole (played by Patsy Ferran). The film, written and directed by Guy Jenkin (Outnumbered, Drop The Dead Donkey), promises to be a witty and...

Today marks 20 years since the premiere of the BBC miniseries Archangel, which stars Daniel Craig as a British professor of Soviet history who finds himself pulled into a larger mystery during a trip to Russia. Though it's a little older, it's a great look at Craig before he became famous worldwide as James Bond in Quantum of Solace. With just three 45-minute episodes, it's a quick binge - and you can watch it free HERE on Amazon Prime (also free with ads on Pluto TV and Roku Channel). QUICK...
