Acorn TV Announces Murder Mystery May Lineup + This Week in British TV

Today marks 9 years since the 2016 premiere of the dark comedy Flowers, which starred Olivia Colman and Julian Barratt as heads of the deeply unconventional Flowers family.

Set in a rambling, crumbling country house, it follows children’s book author Maurice (Barratt) and music teacher Deborah (Colman) as they navigate depression, dysfunction, and long-buried secrets alongside their eccentric adult twins and a live-in illustrator from Japan. The series blends offbeat humor with emotional depth, anchored by a cast that also includes Daniel Rigby, Sophia Di Martino, and Will Sharpe, who also created and directed the show.

In the US, you can stream it HERE.

What we're...

  • Watching: National Treasures - Griff Rhys Jones goes behind the scenes with the National Trust to reveal how they care for some of the UK’s most iconic landscapes, castles, and historic homes. It was $2.99 to buy the season at time of writing, but it's a small price to pay for a couple hours of highly rewatchable scenery.
  • Reading: This One Life by Amanda Prowse - Prowse is one of the UK's most prolific bestsellers but until I spotted this one on sale (still on sale at time of writing), I hadn't read any of her work. Though I'm usually more of a mystery reader, I can see why she sells so many copies. She offers entertaining but realistic portrayals of women's lives and issues. Plot: As Madeleine prepares to leave the UK for her dream life in LA, a family crisis forces her to confront a past decision that could cost her everything she’s worked for.
