BritBox's Biggest Loss of Shows + Father Ted Musical Plot

When Father Ted turned 30 earlier this year, I gave it another re-watch - and it remains as sharply hilarious as ever. Beginning at the end of this month, BritBox will beginning adding seasons of the show back to their platform, so if you haven't seen it before, you'll have the chance.

The series follows a group of misfit priests living together on a little island off the coast of Ireland, and it remains one of the most influential comedies in British and Irish TV history (it's set in Ireland, but it was made by the British Hat Trick Productions for Channel 4 so it's a little bit of both).

A while back, there was talk of a Father Ted musical, and it was meant to act as a sort of "final episode" to finish the story. Unfortunately, a falling out behind the scenes means it's highly unlikely the musical will ever see the light of day.

In a recent interview, co-creator Graham Linehan talks about what WOULD have happened in the musical - giving us insight into how he and Arthur Mathews wanted the story to end. There's talk of the original series and the musical for roughly the first 45 minutes, but the specifics about the plot of the musical begin at 59:58.

Warning: There's talk of politics and social issues throughout (like the issue of biological men being housed in women's prisons). If you wish to avoid those topics, you may prefer to skip this interview. Otherwise, you can check it out HERE.

What we're...

  • Watching: Behaving Badly - This one disappeared from streaming services for a while, so I haven't watched it since it was on Acorn TV years ago. Dame Judi Dench stars as Bridget, a recently separated woman who shocks her well-heeled social circle by moving in with a younger man and embracing a freer, messier life.
  • Reading: Fatalities & Folios by ACF Bookens - I picked this one up free this morning in ebook format (still free at time of writing), and it's the first book in the Poe Baxter mystery series. At just 174 pages, it's a short, light mystery about a rare book hunter who comes into the orbit of one that's worth killing for.

~200 Titles Dropped From BritBox

We've been tracking BritBox's titles ever since BritBox began, and this is the single biggest removal of shows we've seen in the platform's history. HERE, we talk about what happened, why it's not entirely bad, and what left the platform.

"No war has lasted forever, and neither will this one. A year, maybe ten, but it will end. And when it does, Mr. Paige, you will still be a thief, a liar, and a murderer, and I will not have forgotten. And wherever you are, I will find you."
