Rebus Scottish Crime TV News + British TV This Week...
Published 14 days ago • 3 min read
If you enjoyed ViaPlay's recent Rebus reboot, we have great news for you - the BBC has picked up the series and a second season is in the works (no dates yet). Based on Ian Rankin’s bestselling novels and filmed around Edinburgh and Glasgow, the gritty crime drama follows DI John Rebus as he battles Scottish crime and personal demons in equal measure.
Richard Rankin will return as Rebus in season two, which explores the links between Edinburgh’s violent drug world and its more polished legal and financial elite.
If you haven't watched season 1 yet, you can check it out HERE. And of course, we always recommend the original TV adaptation, which a lot of newer British TV fans may not have seen.
British TV Streaming Guide: US Edition, Summer 2025: Now in Stock
~230 pages cover 23 US-based streaming services, telling you which British TV shows are available on each and what they're about. No need to give yourself carpal tunnel clicking through endless on-screen menus.
An alphabetised index for when you know the name of the show, but not the streaming service.
Size 12 font! It adds a bit to our printing/shipping costs and makes the book longer, but let's be real - most of our readers are 50+, and nobody wants to be squinting at prescription bottle-sized print.
Each edition has bonus features in back. This time, we look at movies featuring older British female actors and the best modern British spy thrillers.
A "Renewals & Cancellations" section that offers status updates about which shows are returning (or not).
Prefer to buy on Amazon? It's a little more expensive (they take a huge cut), but they do offer Prime shipping, so that's always a plus. Check it out on Amazon HERE.
Watching: Highland Cops - It's not my usual viewing fare, but this docuseries about the men and women who police the vast and beautiful Scottish Highlands is kind of addictive (and it's only a little bit like Hamish Macbeth).
Reading: Royal Gambit by Daniel O'Malley - Just out this week, this book is kind of a fun blend of genres. It follows Alix, a bone-shattering agent of a secret UK agency, as she goes undercover as a lady-in-waiting to protect a royal heir from a preternatural assassination.
On BritBox, season 2 of Forensics: The Real CSI was added on the 11th. On the 16th, they added Pigs, and on the 17th we can look forward to The Outcast. On the 18th, they're adding season 18 of Would I Lie to You?.
On PBS Masterpiece, new episodes continue for season 10 of Grantchester, and the 20th will bring the season finale of Patience. Patience is a British adaptation of the French series Astrid et Raphaelle, about a police detective and autistic archivist who work together to solve cases.
On Netflix, July 10th brought Too Much, a Lena Dunham production about a 30-something workaholic who relocates from NYC to London in the aftermath of a breakup. On the 23rd, they'll add Critical: Between Life & Death, a docuseries about major trauma teams in London.
On Apple TV+, The Wild Ones was added on July 11th. It follows elite wildlife experts who work to protect critically endangered species in remote and challenging regions.

Before we get into the regular "this week in British TV" and upcoming BritBox schedule, a few quick news-related updates: Code of Silence, which just premiered over on BritBox, has been renewed for a second series. BritBox has announced a date for the new Death in Paradise spin-off, Return to Paradise. It will premiere on September 2nd. BritBox has announced that the new crime drama Lynley is "Coming Soon" - no specific date yet, but it's great to know if you've been waiting for that one,...
To many people, Sherlock seems like a modern take on the Sherlock Holmes story - but you might be shocked to realise that this week marks 15 years since the series premiered. Created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, the BBC series reimagined Arthur Conan Doyle’s legendary detective in 21st-century London, complete with smartphones, GPS, and modern crime scenes. Benedict Cumberbatch stars as the brilliant but socially aloof Sherlock Holmes, with Martin Freeman as his loyal (and often...
Today marks 17 years since the premiere of Bonekickers - which really doesn't feel that old to me when I watch it. The series stars Hugh Bonneville (Douglas is Cancelled), Julie Graham (Queens of Mystery), and Adrian Lester (Hustle), and it dramatises the lives of archaeologists who see a bit more excitement than most. Sadly, there's just one season - but you can watch it HERE. UPDATE: Last minute news addition - As we were prepping this email it was announced that Grantchester is going to...
