New British TV This Week + British TV About the Upper Classes

First off - thanks for the many hundreds of emails about long list of British TV status updates. Based on the overwhelmingly positive feedback, we'll continue to send out a refreshed version roughly once a month (in addition to the individual updates we include in our regular newsletters). We appreciate those who've emailed to let us know about shows we missed, too - that's very helpful as we expand the list to make it more comprehensive in future!
Second - some of you will know that I'm kind of a huge nerd about Irish-born singer Gilbert O'Sullivan. In case anyone missed the news, he's just released his first ever re-recording of "Alone Again (Naturally)", and you can check it out HERE. The link also works for pre-ordering his new album, if you're so inclined.
Though I love the original, I think I might like the new one even better because it's a song that really benefits from a more mature voice.
Now, to tie this back to British TV..."Alone Again (Naturally)" popped up in the Ted Lasso episode "Beard After Hours", as well as S2E4 of Life on Mars. Another of his songs, "Get Down", also showed up in Life on Mars - in S1E2. And of course, Gilbert himself lives in Jersey, where Bergerac was filmed (both the classic John Nettles version and the upcoming reboot).

Watching: Phil Spencer's Stately Homes - Architecture expert Phil Spencer gives us lengthy tours and history lessons about some of the UK's finest stately homes - including Burghley House, Castle Howard, and Woburn Abbey.
Reading: A Scottish Highland Hideaway by Julie Shackman - It's basically a Scottish Hallmark movie in book form, but autumn's in the air here in Maine, and it was the perfect light read for a couple of crisp island mornings.
On BritBox, Season 2 of the Scottish crime drama Granite Harbour premiered today. On the 16th, Monty Don's American Gardens premieres, followed by The White Princess on the 20th and season 2 of Avoidance on the 22nd.
On Acorn TV, the 12th brought the 2013 drama Run and the 4th season of the Swedish period drama The Restaurant. On the 19th, season 3 of the New Zealand-based drama Under the Vines will return. The NZ crime comedy Far North will also premiere that day.
It's also worth noting that we've recently seen a number of films front-loading the ads so you can watch without disruption. We're not sure if that's happening for all people and all films, but it's a definite improvement over the constant interruptions!

A lot of new shows have been renewed or announced lately, so here's a look at what's on the horizon.
Dear England - This upcoming BBC One series will provide a fictionalised account of England's football teams. Joseph Fiennes will star.
The Diplomat, Season 3 - This Netflix series returns with Keri Russell starring as Kate Wyler, the new US Ambassador to the UK. Though she's great in a war zone, she doesn't know what to do in a historic home in London. She'll have to figure it out while trying to survive her marriage to fellow diplomat Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell).
Disability Benefits - This upcoming Channel 4 series is in pre-production, and it will follow a young woman who builds an illegal drugs empire when her benefits are cut. Emily is funny, educated, and thanks to her cerebral palsy, unsuspected as a criminal mastermind.
All Out of Love: The Air Supply Story - As long as we're talking about British music, I should probably mention that I've seen Air Supply perform more than a dozen times (really - see photo below). It's a safe assumption that I'll be watching this one when it comes out. Founding members Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock come from the UK and Australia, and pretty much everyone will know at least one of their songs - classics like "Lost in Love", "All Out of Love", "Making Love Out of Nothing At All", "The One That You Love", etc. The biopic is in pre-production with no details yet on who will stream it.
