This Week in British TV + Patience, Ludwig, Death Valley News

First off - after a couple of very long days of packing, all pre-ordered copies of the British TV Streaming Guide: US Edition, Summer 2025 have been shipped out and picked up by the USPS - and as you might have seen in our Facebook group, a few have arrived at their destinations already.

The initial print run sold out, but we got a couple more boxes today and we're expecting a few hundred more later this week. You can buy a copy or just learn more HERE.

In the last year or two, there have been a number of really great new British TV mysteries and crime dramas. Even better than that? Several of them have been renewed:

  • Ludwig - Series 2 begins filming in September 2025
  • Death Valley - Series 2 is expected to begin filming in August 2025.
  • Patience - Filming has commenced for season 2, and it's expected to air in 2026.
  • Black Doves - Series 2 is expected to begin filming in September 2025
  • Bergerac (not yet available in US) - Series 2 is expected to begin filming in July 2025.

In terms of slightly older new shows, this autumn will see series 3 of Sherwood, series 4 of Blue Lights, series 7 of Slow Horses, series 3 of Vigil, and series 7 of CB Strike all going into production. Grantchester begins filming series 11 in July, too.

That's a lot of great TV on the horizon!

What we're...

  • Watching: The Sleeper - This 2000 BBC crime thriller focuses on Violet Moon (Dame Eileen Atkins), a spiritualist matriarch desperate to stop her son, Fergus (Ciarán Hinds), and his wife from selling the cherished family farm. When a figure from Violet’s hidden past appears - triggered by a séance - it unleashes decades-old secrets, rivalries, and escalating tensions. It's a bit slow by 2025 standards, but still well worth watching. Watch it HERE
  • Reading: Have I Told You Lately by Beth Moran - This was (and still is, at time of writing) on sale for 99 cents. After her adoptive mother’s death, Emmie Brown discovers a hidden photo and letters that lead her to a vibrant family on the Isle of Siskin - where uncovering the truth about her past will be a big part of planning her future.

If you've been enjoying The Crow Girl over on Acorn TV, great news - it was just announced today that the series would return for a second season. The series follows DCI Jeanette Kilburn (Eve Myles, Keeping Faith) and psychotherapist Dr. Sophia Craven (Katherine Kelly, Happy Valley) as they join forces to hunt a killer targeting young men. Since the synopsis for season 2 contains spoilers (and new episodes are still premiering in the US), we've placed the synopsis at the very bottom of this...

Most people don’t think of Cornwall as a hub for surreal, time-bending cinema — but filmmaker Mark Jenkin has been quietly turning its fishing villages and coastal landscapes into the backdrop for some of Britain’s most haunting arthouse films. His latest, Rose of Nevada, premiered at Venice with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score and will arrive in the US this October (first at indie theatres and festivals, probably getting to streaming services a little later). The film follows Nick (George...

This week marks 50 years since the premiere of Fawlty Towers, the show that turned Basil Fawlty from a frayed hotel keeper into one of Britain’s most beloved characters. Created by John Cleese and Connie Booth, the series ran for just two seasons—twelve episodes in total—but its razor-sharp wit, chaotic hotel antics, and unforgettable one-liners secured its place in comedy legend. Sadly, the show isn't streaming via ANY strictly legal means in the US at the moment, though you can definitely...
