Under the Radar British TV Weekend Recommendations

If the latest British TV releases haven't been enough for you, no worries - this email is meant for you. In it, we'll highlight some British shows and movies you may have missed (or forgotten about), all of which are available to stream in the US.

What we're...

  • Watching: Uncanny, Season 2 - Based on the popular radio series, this TV series explores seemingly inexplicable phenomena. In each episode, Danny Robins interviews a witness about an eerie encounter, then two experts weigh in—one seeking rational explanations, the other exploring supernatural links. Guests include Caroline Watt, Chris French, Ciarán O'Keeffe, and Evelyn Hollow.
  • Reading: A Vow of Silence by Veronica Black - One of the great things about ebooks is that, unlike print books, there's very little cost involved in delivering the files - meaning authors with large back catalogues can bundle and sell books very cheaply. I picked up the first 9 Sister Joan novels for $1.99 (price on the morning of March 16th, 2025). The series follows Sister Joan, a woman who walked away from her lover to become a nun in Cornwall - only to find herself mixed up in an improbable number of murder investigations. If you enjoyed shows like Sister Boniface Mysteries, Father Brown, Father Dowling, and Don Matteo, these books are worth checking out.

A man with a criminal past finds refuge working solo shifts at Wales' quietest toll booth. But when his location is revealed, trouble soon follows as old enemies come seeking revenge.

Tied to events from the 2003 Iraq War, the series unfolds across Liverpool, Manchester, and Derbyshire's Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, with each episode focusing on a different character caught in the web of intrigue.

This legal comedy follows Will Packham, an idealistic pupil barrister determined to do the right thing — for now. His clients are far from innocent, his ruthless mentor Caroline (played by Katherine Parkinson) sees him as a gutless snowflake, and his fellow pupils would do anything to get ahead.

Over two chaotic days, Will must defend a would-be murderer, keep a young slam poet out of custody, and manage Caroline’s endless pastry demands.

This one's not as "under the radar" or forgotten as most on this list, but if you mainly stick with BritBox and Acorn TV, you may have missed it.

Eddie Redmayne stars as a master assassin on a high-stakes mission across Europe, pursued by a determined British intelligence officer. Inspired by Frederick Forsyth's novel, this modern reimagining delivers a fresh take on the classic cat-and-mouse thriller.

If you've been enjoying The Crow Girl over on Acorn TV, great news - it was just announced today that the series would return for a second season. The series follows DCI Jeanette Kilburn (Eve Myles, Keeping Faith) and psychotherapist Dr. Sophia Craven (Katherine Kelly, Happy Valley) as they join forces to hunt a killer targeting young men. Since the synopsis for season 2 contains spoilers (and new episodes are still premiering in the US), we've placed the synopsis at the very bottom of this...

Most people don’t think of Cornwall as a hub for surreal, time-bending cinema — but filmmaker Mark Jenkin has been quietly turning its fishing villages and coastal landscapes into the backdrop for some of Britain’s most haunting arthouse films. His latest, Rose of Nevada, premiered at Venice with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score and will arrive in the US this October (first at indie theatres and festivals, probably getting to streaming services a little later). The film follows Nick (George...

This week marks 50 years since the premiere of Fawlty Towers, the show that turned Basil Fawlty from a frayed hotel keeper into one of Britain’s most beloved characters. Created by John Cleese and Connie Booth, the series ran for just two seasons—twelve episodes in total—but its razor-sharp wit, chaotic hotel antics, and unforgettable one-liners secured its place in comedy legend. Sadly, the show isn't streaming via ANY strictly legal means in the US at the moment, though you can definitely...
