Watching: Dept Q - This one's over on Netflix, and while I honestly didn't love most of the first episode and gave up on it at first, it's worth sticking with it because it gets better. Based on Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen's series, it follows Edinburgh-based detective Carl Morck as he heads up a cold case department of one.
Reading: The Chalk Circle Man by Fred Vargas - This one's French (translated to English), but it's wonderfully quirky and it would make a fantastic French or British TV series. The series follows the unusual Commissaire Adamsberg through a variety of cases, with the first book seeing him investigating a series of blue circles drawn around items in the city - including a corpse.

BritBox has announced a date for the new Death in Paradise spin-off, Return to Paradise. It will premiere on September 2nd. BritBox has announced that the new crime drama Lynley is "Coming Soon" - no specific date yet, but it's great to know if you've been waiting for that one,...
To many people, Sherlock seems like a modern take on the Sherlock Holmes story - but you might be shocked to realise that this week marks 15 years since the series premiered. Created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, the BBC series reimagined Arthur Conan Doyle’s legendary detective in 21st-century London, complete with smartphones, GPS, and modern crime scenes. Benedict Cumberbatch stars as the brilliant but socially aloof Sherlock Holmes, with Martin Freeman as his loyal (and often...
If you enjoyed ViaPlay's recent Rebus reboot, we have great news for you - the BBC has picked up the series and a second season is in the works (no dates yet). Based on Ian Rankin’s bestselling novels and filmed around Edinburgh and Glasgow, the gritty crime drama follows DI John Rebus as he battles Scottish crime and personal demons in equal measure. Richard Rankin will return as Rebus in season two, which explores the links between Edinburgh’s violent drug world and its more polished legal...
