What's on (American) British TV This Week + 28 Great Hulu Crime Dramas

Since we spent much of early June rushing to get the British TV Streaming Guide: US Edition, Summer 2025 off to the printer, we missed an update or two, but we're back to the regularly scheduled updates.

And of course, if you want to get in a pre-order before they arrive here for shipment, you can still do that. We still have around 200 copies available from the initial 1500 unit print run, and we've placed a follow-up order for more that should arrive soon after. You can read more or place your pre-order HERE.

What we're...

  • Watching: Dept Q - This one's over on Netflix, and while I honestly didn't love most of the first episode and gave up on it at first, it's worth sticking with it because it gets better. Based on Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen's series, it follows Edinburgh-based detective Carl Morck as he heads up a cold case department of one.
  • Reading: The Chalk Circle Man by Fred Vargas - This one's French (translated to English), but it's wonderfully quirky and it would make a fantastic French or British TV series. The series follows the unusual Commissaire Adamsberg through a variety of cases, with the first book seeing him investigating a series of blue circles drawn around items in the city - including a corpse.

When Father Ted turned 30 earlier this year, I gave it another re-watch - and it remains as sharply hilarious as ever. Beginning at the end of this month, BritBox will beginning adding seasons of the show back to their platform, so if you haven't seen it before, you'll have the chance. The series follows a group of misfit priests living together on a little island off the coast of Ireland, and it remains one of the most influential comedies in British and Irish TV history (it's set in...
