Big Grantchester News + British TV This Week

Today marks 17 years since the premiere of Bonekickers - which really doesn't feel that old to me when I watch it. The series stars Hugh Bonneville (Douglas is Cancelled), Julie Graham (Queens of Mystery), and Adrian Lester (Hustle), and it dramatises the lives of archaeologists who see a bit more excitement than most.

Sadly, there's just one season - but you can watch it HERE.

UPDATE: Last minute news addition - As we were prepping this email it was announced that Grantchester is going to end after season 11, which will air next year. Writer, creator, and EP Daisy Coulam said:

At its heart, Grantchester is a show about the power of friendship and love. We’ve been so lucky over the last 11 series to experience that on and off screen. For over a decade now – cast and crew (many who’ve been there since the beginning) have met each Summer to film. And it’s been an absolute joy. Thank you to James Runcie for entrusting us with his characters. Thank you to the lovely people of real Grantchester. Thank you to everyone who’s been a part of the show in any way – big or small. I’ll miss you terribly.

As a heads up, Amazon's Prime Day sales are going on for the next 4 days - so we'll be sending out a couple of bonus emails to highlight sales that might be of interest to British TV fans (like these Prime Day Streaming Channel Sales).

British TV Streaming Guide: US Edition, Summer 2025: Now in Stock

What is it?

  • ~230 pages cover 23 US-based streaming services, telling you which British TV shows are available on each and what they're about. No need to give yourself carpal tunnel clicking through endless on-screen menus.
  • An alphabetised index for when you know the name of the show, but not the streaming service.
  • Size 12 font! It adds a bit to our printing/shipping costs and makes the book longer, but let's be real - most of our readers are 50+, and nobody wants to be squinting at prescription bottle-sized print.
  • Each edition has bonus features in back. This time, we look at movies featuring older British female actors and the best modern British spy thrillers.
  • A "Renewals & Cancellations" section that offers status updates about which shows are returning (or not).

Prefer to buy on Amazon? It's a little more expensive (they take a huge cut), but they do offer Prime shipping, so that's always a plus. Check it out on Amazon HERE. If you like British books, we'll also be doing the same over on our Great British Book Club newsletter, so you can sign up HERE if you want to stay updated.

What we're...

  • Watching: Surprised by Oxford - This film about an American PhD student falling in love at Oxford might not normally be at the top of my list, but the combination of Oxford scenery and appearances from Phyllis Logan (Downton Abbey) and Simon Callow (Chance in a Million) was too good to pass up.
  • Reading: The Silent Killer by Trevor Wood - I loved Wood's Newcastle-based Jimmy Mullen series, tearing through each book in 2-3 hours. When I saw he had a new series AND that the first in series was only 99 cents (still as, at time of writing), I was thrilled. The new series is also set in Newcastle, and it follows DCI Jack Parker as he battles a serial killer...and early onset dementia.

Amazon makes it easy to cancel when you're ready (no calls or customer service necessary, just a few clicks on the "Memberships and Subscriptions" section of the account), and if you use something...
