Surprising Grantchester Possibility + This Week in (US) British TV

Today brings some very interesting news from Cambridge - mainly, the fact that James Norton (Grantchester, Happy Valley) has been spotted on the set where they're filming the final season of Grantchester, which will air next year.

Could it be that we'll see him putting in an appearance in the final season? According to Radio Times, there's nothing in the works and it was just a friendly visit...but you never really know until the new season actually airs. It would certainly be nice to know what Sidney Chambers has been up to since his departure.

The UK's Daily Star posted a number of photos, if you're curious.

Also in British TV news - Acorn TV has given official confirmation on what we spotted in a casting database a few months back. The Chelsea Detective will definitely be back for season 4, and it just started filming this month.

Adrian Scarborough (Killing Eve, Mirand) and Vanessa Emme (Dublin Murders) are back as DI Max Arnold and DS Layla Walsh - and the new season will have 4 feature-length episodes. We can expect to see the new season sometime in 2026 (too soon for an exact date).

What we're...

  • Watching: The Case of the Whitechapel Vampire - I spotted this 2002 film on Amazon, and it stars Matt Frewer and Kenneth Walsh as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in a case where an apparent vampire is terrifying Londoners.
  • Reading: The Missing Nurse by Roger Silverwood - I received an email from Joffe Books saying this series had been relaunched on Kindle with ebooks in the series offered for 99 cents/each (no idea how long the price lasts), so I had to check it out. It's a crime series set in Yorkshire, and the middle-aged DI Michael Angel is a reasonably well-adjusted married man (great if you've grown weary of maladjusted alcoholics and womanizer-type detectives). So far, it's fun and not too heavy and great to read while awaiting new books from Richard Osman, JK Rowling, and MW Craven over the next several weeks.

This week marks 44 years since the premiere of the classic British sitcom Only Fools & Horses. If you've never seen it, it's one of those shows that every British TV fan should at least try for a couple episodes. David Jason's portrayal of Del Boy is iconic, and the show is a warm, light-hearted portrayal of working-class London in the late twentieth century. Its blend of character-driven humour, emotional depth, and everyday realism helped shape the tone of modern British comedy for decades...

This year marks 50 years since the premiere of one of the UK's greatest sitcoms of all time - The Good Life (aka Good Neighbors in the US). As it opens, Tom Good is celebrating his 40th birthday and having a bit of a mid-life crisis. He has a wife, a mediocre career in plastics, and a house in suburbia... and he's sick of the rat race. He decides to quit his job and "live off the land" in his suburban house. Next door, their friends the Leadbetters are not entirely approving, but they remain...

Today marks 9 years since the premiere of Motherland, a brilliant British comedy about the trials of middle class motherhood in modern England. Created by comedy legend Graham Linehan (Father Ted, IT Crowd, Black Books) alongside Sharon Horgan, Helen Serafinowicz, and Holly Walsh, it continued for three seasons and a couple specials before spawning a spin-off, Amandaland, which is sadly not yet available in the US. All three seasons are available HERE on BritBox. NEWS: Those who've been...
